NDT ultrasonic inspection techniques allow to detect the defects located at a considerable depth in various materials, products, and weld joints. Compared to other non-destructive testing methods, ultrasonic flaw detection has significant advantages: a high sensitivity to the most hazardous defects like cracks or incomplete penetration; high capacity; and the ability to supervise the testing directly from an operator’s workplace with no process interruption – all at low operational cost. Ultrasonic examination is applied in a wide range of industries: energy, heavy machinery, railway, ship building, and the chemical sector. Hundreds of thousands of meters of structural welds, tens of thousands of pipe joints, boiler units, rail weld joints, as well as the quality of pressurized tank parts, forgings, tubes, rolled plates and other products are annually inspected by means of ultrasonic NDT techniques. Ultrasonic non-destructive testing technique for flaw detection is based on propagation and reflection of high-frequency (0.5 to 24 MHz) UT waves in a test object (steel, plastic, composites, rubber, etc.), with their further processing and visualizing on a special-purpose NDT instrument (flaw detector). This method is used to search for material defects (pores, hairlines, inclusions, in homogeneities, etc.) and to control workmanship quality like welding, soldering, etc. Ultrasound examination is a mandatory procedure for manufacturing and operation of numerous critical parts, such as aircraft motor parts, main pipelines or rails.

UT FLAW DETECTOR - SONOCON BL

    UT FLAW DETECTOR - SONOCON B

    The Sonocon B is a light weighted UT unit – only 0.95 kg (2 lbs). Due to its ergonomic shape and a hand strap, it can be quite comfortably operated with a single hand, which is particularly important in the field and especially on height. It can be used by both left- and right-handers. A high contrast display of optimal size and resolution (800×480) prevents the operator’s excessive eyestrain.
    The Sonocon B is a digital UT tester combining 3 devices in 1:

  • a flaw detector
  • an A-Scan thickness gauge
  • a corrosion monitor

    UT FLAW DETECTOR - EXSCAN

    Easy, ergonomic, fast, reliable and accurate - this is a handheld portable ultrasonic flaw detector of the new generation ExScan UT. The device is simple and easy to use. Due to the shape of the case, the hand strap and the low weight (less than 2 lbs.), It is easy to carry out measurements by holding the flaw detector with one hand in conditions with limited access to the testing object or in the conditions of application of climbing equipment during testing. The device is designed for manual control of products for the presence of defects such as cracks, pores, delamination, disruption of materials homogeneity, finished products, semi-finished products and welded joints, as well as to estimate the propagation speed of ultrasonic vibrations, change in equivalent defect sizes. Available in three versions: Basic UT, Thickness Gauge, and Basic UT + Thickness Gauge. To quickly adapt new users to the interface of the device, the ExScan UT offers several options: context lighting, prompts for menu items, menu presets, a full menu, Simple1 & Simple 2. The protection level of the device is IP65, the operating temperature range is -22 ° F to 122 ° F, it is resistant to ionizing radiation and high humidity, which makes it possible to successfully use the device in harsh operating conditions.

    TOFD(2.2 LITE) - MAN WIRELESS SYSTEM

    The system is designed for testing long welded joints of pipes, tanks, vessels, cisterns, ship hulls, bridges, etc. using TOFD technique. Circumferential welds with a diameter from 12 in (300 mm) can be inspected on cylindrical objects. On cylindrical, spherical, as well as complex shaped objects with a radius of surface curvature from 16 ft. (5 m) to flatness, the system is capable of testing long welds in any direction. Objects with wall thickness from .25 to 12 in (from 6 to 300 mm) can be examined with the help of appropriate probes. Depending on the inspection task, TOFD MAN TM system can be complete with another scanner (see “Scanners”). The amount of probe pairs can vary from 1 to 4. For good coupling, it is advised to use an external coupling liquid supply system. In this case, a water hose will come to the scanner. But if absolute mobility is needed, coupling media can be applied to the object before testing, or a test object can be continuously showered with water Configuration of the system is maximally optimized for placement on the operator's jacket, which does not impede the movement, also when performing an inspection at height (climbing, rope access). Standard delivery set of the system features an 8- hour battery to be put in the jacket. The scanner is light-weighted and easy to guide. It ensures handy probes setup. In the course of and testing, all setup data are transferred to a remote PC (laptop or tablet) via Wi-Fi. A system for protecting the integrity of test data is provided, while they are fully stored inside the TOFD module and transferred to PC at the end of testing. If required, it is possible to use a wire connection to transmit data to PC.

    TOFD 2.2 PRO WIRELESS SYSTEM

    TOFD method has been widely used for fast and reliable ultrasonic testing (UT) of welded joints over the last years. TOFD offers great accuracy for measuring the critical size of crack-like-defects. The accuracy of better than ±1mm can be achieved in a wide range of material thicknesses. “TOFD 2.2 PRO System” performs mechanized UT of butt welds using Time-Of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) technique. The Equipment is used for testing the welded joints UT at:

  • flat objects
  • tubes of medium and large diameters – OD not less than 12 in (300 mm) – depends on the scanner type
  • spherical and cylindrical oil and gas tanks – OD not less than 33 ft. (10 m).

  • Wall thickness: from .25 to 12 in (6 to 300 mm). Profile types: CRC Evans, single J groove weld, single V groove weld, double V groove weld, X welds, etc.

    THICKNESS GAUGES (UTG-8)

    UTG-8 is a portable ultrasonic thickness gauge that provides accurate thickness measuring of various materials, as well as scanning of tested item to record its minimum thickness value. The instrument is intended to be used in a wide range of industries to evaluate the wall thickness of tanks, pipes, body parts, plates, beams or support structures, including condition monitoring of corroded surfaces, even with one-side access to the test item. The device has an ergonomic and user-friendly design. Its case shape and material enable to firmly hold the thickness gauge with one hand only during on-site operation. Due to IP65 water- and dust-proof rating, as well as display backlight, the instrument can be used in extremely harsh environment.

    RAILFLAW DETECTOR UDS 2-77

    UDS2-77 ultrasonic single rail flaw detector is a hand-pushed cart intended for the inspection of one rail line. This rail inspection equipment is manufactured in 9 modifications and can use either Slide or Roller Search Unit with 3 to 13 UT channels (probes). The rail flaw detector utilizes a unique scanning scheme that allows testing the entire rail section, except for foot flanges, by pulse echo, echo-shadow and echo-image techniques. The cart is made from light but rigid composite materials, due to which the total weight of the device is 16 kg only.
